10 Quick Mistakes to Avoid with Medicare
1. Not signing up for Medicare when you first become eligible.
Sign up when you turn 65! If you sign up late, you get a 10% penalty when you sign up for Part B premium and you cannot sign up until the General Enrollment Period. If you are taking Social Security, you will automatically get enrolled in Part A and Part B premium. If not, then you are not going to get your Medicare card in the mail automatically. You have 100 days prior to turning 65 to enroll in Part B
2. Not Taking Advantage of The Annual AEP (Annual Election Period).
It is important to have an annual review, during the annual election periods. It is important to receive an annual physical because you don’t know if your body has changed in the last 6 months to a year. It is important to know how things could change in Part B Plans, prescription drug plans, and Medicare Advantage plans, those will change each year.

3. Not Understanding the Difference Between Original Medicare with A Medicare Supplement Plan and A Medicare Advantage Plan.
When we ask our clients, "what plan do you have?" We take a look at your ID and make sure it’s the same plan. Talk to us during the Open Enrollment period, October 15th through December 7th, and we will be your guide.
4. If You Are on A Medicare Supplement or Medigap Plan, Be Sure to Get with The Right Company.
It’s not so much about your first-year premium but more importantly, it's the rate stability. Also, make sure to review your PDP plan.
5. Not Understanding Your Rights.
You have the right to switch plans. It is important to know when to switch, how to switch, and who to switch to. Work with an unbiased independent Medicare agency that can guide you. Find an agency that works with multiple plans, not just one. We represent all the carriers and all the plans, that’s why it’s important to work with a professional team. We serve here on the Treasure Coast and the entire state of Florida, also 30 other states as well.
6. People Would Always Delay their part B.
People will delay buying a Medicare supplement plan, without understanding that if you wait, you may not be able to get on a supplement plan later on. Especially if you have health issues.
7. Not Understanding Your Out-of-Pocket Costs
It’s important that you work with a professional to guide you through that.
8. Not Taking Advantage of LIS (Low Income Subsidy) For Part D.
We talked to a client yesterday that was on a five-tier drug Xeljanz and the cost per month was over thirteen hundred dollars. So now because that that client is making less than nineteen thousand dollars a year, she qualifies for a low-income subsidy.
9. Not Knowing What Is Not Covered Under Original Medicare.
Such as long-term care, dental, vision, hearing, dentures, acupuncture, and things of that nature.
10. It’s Complicated, It’s Convoluted, It’s Confusing.
Tom and Gary are here to help bring clarity over confusion. We simplify insurance planning so you can live the stress-free life that you deserve.
